Surrender

If you are considering finding a new home for your boxer please click here first!

About us:

BOCAR is a not for profit 501c3 organization staffed entirely by volunteers. We do not have a shelter or kennel to house our dogs. Our dogs live in foster homes or remain with their original families until permanent placement can be found. Our foster homes are almost always full and we are usually operating at capacity.

What this means to you:

Rehoming your Boxer with BOCAR may take some time. We can only accept owner surrenders when space is available. If you do not need to place your dog immediately then we can host your dog on our website & other adoption websites like Adopt-A-Pet & Petfinder while he remains in your home. This is usually the best case scenario for your dog because he will only have to make one transition (your home to his new permanent home). If you need to place your dog immediately (and your dog meets our acceptance criteria) then we will try to find space within one of our foster homes, however, priority is given in the order of greatest need.

What comes next?

If you choose to keep the dog in your home (while he is awaiting placement) please be patient with our process. Occasionally we already have an approved applicant that has been waiting for a dog like yours, but that is not the norm. Depending on your dog’s age, health, temperament, and special needs it could take weeks (or MORE) to find him an appropriate placement. We thoroughly screen each potential adopter and have strict criteria for what is considered an approved home. BOCAR only places dogs in the most optimum situations and we do our best to properly match the right dog to the right family, however, finding that “perfect match” will take some time.

Contact us:

If you have exhausted all other avenues and have no choice but to give up your boxer then please send us an email with the following information: Please note we MUST receive all requested information before BOCAR can consider your Boxer:

1. We need pictures of your boxer (Its best to take pictures in a flattering light with a nice background. Outside on green grass usually works well).

2. Age of your Boxer?

3. Is your Boxer good with other dogs, kids (what ages?) or cats?

4. Has your Boxer had any training? Is he/she housetrained?

5. Does your boxer have any behavioral issues (i.e. separation anxiety, aggression, fears, phobias, etc)? Please be as detailed as possible.

6. Has your dog ever bitten anyone? If yes, please explain.

7. Is your dog up to date on all vaccinations? Is he or she spayed or neutered?

8. Does your Boxer have any health problems?

9. Why are you considering surrendering your Boxer to BOCAR?

10. Are you able to keep your boxer while he is waiting for a new home?

11. Are you able to make a surrender donation of at least $25.00?

12. Please supply us with your contact info & what city you are located in.

Please note that submission of this information does not indicate nor imply placement of your dog. This is just the 1st step of our process. Once your detailed email has been received someone will contact you. Again please be patient, it may take up to 72hrs for a volunteer to get back to you.
